Art Supplies

So, you're an aspiring artist and you're faced with a conundrum. Staring up at you from the interior of your wallet are five dollars. They look like they're having a good time in there, but your stomach is growling. Behind you sits your latest creation, woefully short of completion. It just needs one more touch for it to be complete, but therein is the conundrum. You see, you don't have the material for that touch. You can picture it, complete in your mind's eye, but that picture seems to have a neon arrow pointing to that which you lack.

So now your five dollars has two needs. It needs to fill your stomach and it needs to finish your piece, what to do? Well if you've been a smart artist, you've been investing in wholesale art supplies the whole time. You see wholesale art supplies are qualitatively equivalent to the high end materials; but they're much less interested in what resides in your wallet. The less you have to spend on your creative output, the more there is left over for incidentals like food and shelter.

The fact of the matter is an artist is rarely commercially successful in their lifetime. This means that as an artist, you're likely looking at a lifetime of budgeting to ensure that your income covers all your expenses and allows you to meet your financial goals. It's not a comforting reality, but strife is a great muse. You can minimize the pain of budgeting if you plan ahead well, and part of that planning should be attempting to find the best deals on the supplies you use every day. Whether you need 3 tons of clay for a piece you've been commissioned to make for the new city park, or you need 1000 gallons of paint for a fresco you need to paint it makes sense to get those things as inexpensively as you can. Even if you're working on a smaller scale, it is still better to make your dollar to as much work as it can. You're already working hard enough, your money should be working equally hard for you.
